Vice President: John C. Calhoun

John Quincy Adams had a great plan to help America but he could not get them accomplished for the most part. Adams also was believed to win the presidency because of a bribe that Henry Clay offered Adams. So therefor Adams deserves a C- even though he was accused of the bribe nothing was ever proven.

Adams wanted to improve the American System so some of his goals included a high tariff to support internal improvements like building roads, national bank to encourage productive enterprise, and form a national currency. He wanted to modernized America with roads, canals, national university, etc... Many of his goals were not met due to congress and there frustration of how he won office.

Majority of congress supported Jackson and were still furious over the election of 1824. Which is now known has the corrupt bargain. Although Jackson had the majority of electoral votes he was not elected the next president because Henry Clay and Adams made a bargain. Clay elected Adams President so he could become Secretary of State so later he would have a sure win to the presidency. John Quincy Adams didn't want to remove anyone from his administration because he believed they should serve until they are incompetent. Which made it even harder for Adam to get any of his goals approved.

The decisions he made had no affect on the nation or on future presidents but one Andrew Jackson. Due to the bribe that Adams and Clay had Jacksonian started campaigning as soon as Adams became president. Adam's presidency was shadowed due to this bargain the congress paved the way for Jackson to win in the next election.

For Adam to get approval from congress for some of his proposals was not an easy task. So when they approved the expansion of the Cumberland road and to construct more canals. The expansion to the Cumberland made it easy to travel long distances the new road led all the way to Ohio. This expansion was considered one of the first highway which later led to turnpikes. Adams approved the construction of many canals to be built so it would be easier to trade with other exports.

One of the worst things Adam did in his presidency was approve the Tariff of Abomination this really made the southerners angry because of the effect it was having on the antebellum southern economy. What he originally had plan was a good idea the people were buying there goods for foreign countries because they were cheaper then the resources in America. So he put a tariff on exported goods to try and improve America's economy.

The country was better off before Adams became president because from the very beginning his presidency was doomed because of the corrupt bargain and many people were mad because Jackson was the rightful winner. Although Adam probably would have been a great president if the congress wasn't against him the whole time. Many of his ideas to improve the country were great, but he couldn't get them approved so the country had no chance to prosper in his presidency. Therefore he deserves a C- because he made poor decision from the very beginning.
